
SRINAGAR: Police on Sunday released a Kashmiri man who had been detained for allegedly attempting to offer namaz inside the Ram Mandir complex, after his family produced medical records confirming that he suffers from mental illness, according to multiple national media reports.
The man, identified as Ahmed Sheikh of Shopian district in Jammu and Kashmir, was taken into custody on Saturday after security personnel noticed him allegedly preparing to pray within the temple premises.
Superintendent of Police (City) Chakrapani Tripathi said Sheikh’s family reached Ayodhya later that evening and informed the authorities about his medical condition. After submitting medical documents in support of their claim, he was handed over to his relatives, according to The Earth News.
As part of the inquiry, police also questioned a few Kashmiri youths who were selling shawls in Ayodhya. Tripathi said no incriminating material was recovered from them, their identities were verified, and they were released along with their belongings.
Senior officials said security agencies remain vigilant, but no further action is being pursued in the case.
