SRINAGAR: The Kashmir Valley reported a series of fire incidents over the past 24 hours, with at least 14 separate cases recorded across several districts, causing damage to homes, shops, religious buildings, haystacks and trees.

Fire and Emergency Services teams were pressed into action in Srinagar, Sopore, Kupwara, Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama and Bandipora, where they managed to control the blazes and prevent their spread.

In north Kashmir, Sopore witnessed major damage after a fire broke out in a single-storey shopping complex comprising seven shops at Kongrusa in Rafiabad, while three shops were gutted in the main market of Dangiwacha. Separate incidents also involved haystacks at Kunzer, Wanigam and Peernia, where a single-storey structure of the Jhelum Hydro Project caught fire.

Srinagar reported damage to Chinar trees in the Shivpora Bund area, while similar damage was recorded at Adlash in Seergufwara area of Anantnag. Kupwara district saw multiple incidents, including a double-storey residential house at Lastiyal in Kalaroos, a single-storey house at Arambagh, Payerpora, and two wooden sheds at Washipora in Handwara.

In south Kashmir, a double-storey Jamia Ahli Hadees mosque was affected by a fire at Nayi Basti in Anantnag, while two haystacks were damaged at Kathnarg–Deknarg in Kulgam. A double-storey cowshed caught fire in Zakhram area of Keller in Pulwama district. Another haystack was damaged in Madain Mohalla of Bandipora.

Officials said fire service personnel responded promptly to all the incidents, bringing the situations under control and averting major losses. No casualties were reported in any of the fires.
