Kashmir Marathon 2025: CS Reviews Arrangements Ahead of November Event

SRINAGAR: Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo today chaired a high-level meeting to review preparations for the 2nd edition of the Kashmir Marathon, scheduled to take place on November 2, 2025, in Srinagar.

The meeting, convened by the Tourism Department, was attended by senior officials including the Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism; Secretary, Health; Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir; DIG, Traffic; MD, JKTDC; Director, Tourism Kashmir; SSP, Traffic Srinagar; Commissioner, SMC, and other department heads.

Dulloo described the marathon as a key opportunity to promote tourism and sports culture in Jammu and Kashmir, noting the inaugural edition had received an overwhelming response and set new benchmarks for sporting events in the region. He highlighted that participation from national and international runners would reinforce Kashmir’s image as a premier destination for leisure, adventure, and sports tourism.

Emphasising seamless inter-departmental coordination, the Chief Secretary directed officials to ensure comprehensive arrangements for athletes and participants, covering transportation, accommodation, medical care, security, sanitation, and event management. He urged the Traffic Department to implement a robust traffic management plan, including route security, diversions, and advance advisories to safeguard commuters and participants.

Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism Ashish Chander Verma informed that several renowned athletes from across India and abroad are expected to participate. The event will also feature dedicated stalls promoting local handicrafts and handloom products, showcasing the Valley’s cultural heritage.

Director Tourism Kashmir, Raja Yaqoob presented the operational plan detailing participant registration, route management, volunteer deployment, and publicity campaigns. The marathon will feature two race categories — the Full Marathon (42 km) and Half Marathon (21 km) — open to both men and women. The routes will traverse iconic Srinagar landmarks, including Dal Lake, Mughal Gardens, and Chinar-lined boulevards, offering participants a blend of athletic challenge and scenic beauty.

The Kashmir Marathon 2025 also boasts a substantial prize pool. Full Marathon winners will receive Rs 25 lakh for first place, Rs 20 lakh for second, Rs 18 lakh for third, Rs 15 lakh for fourth, and Rs 12 lakh for fifth, with additional age-group prizes ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh. Half Marathon top prizes include Rs 15 lakh for first place, Rs 12 lakh for second, Rs 9 lakh for third, Rs 6 lakh for fourth, and Rs 3 lakh for fifth, alongside age-group awards from Rs 25,000 to Rs 75,000.

Chief Secretary Dulloo expressed optimism that the marathon would not only encourage fitness and sportsmanship among youth but also serve as a major tourism promotion event, attracting visitors globally to experience Kashmir’s natural beauty and cultural richness.
