SRINAGAR: The father of the Kashmir Author and Journalist Basharat Peer passed away on Sunday at their residence in Hyderpora, Srinagar, around 4:00 pm.
Ghulam Ahmad Peer, who held several key positions in the government, including Deputy Commissioner, retired as Commissioner Secretary to the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, lost his battle to a motor neuron disease. The disease that left him unable to communicate properly for a long time. He had been bedridden for almost a year.
Basharat Peer, while informing about his father’s demise, said, “He went peacefully. My mother and I were with him as he left us.”
After he passed away, he was driven to their ancestral village in Seer, Anantnag where his Namaz Jinaza is expected any time after 9:00 pm. Prayers have been requested for the departed soul.
