SRINAGAR: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Srinagar has dismantled a charas supply network operating across Baramulla and Pulwama with the seizure of 2.730 kilograms of charas and the arrest of three persons, including the alleged main supplier.
Officials said the action was taken on November 20 after specific intelligence inputs led to the interception of Bashir Ahmad Malla of Dhobiwan in Baramulla, from whom the contraband was recovered. A prompt follow-up, supported by Baramulla Police, resulted in the arrest of his associate, Mansoor Ahmad Wani of the same area.
Based on disclosures and further intelligence, the suspected key supplier, Abdul Rashid Dar, was subsequently arrested from Pulwama, unearthing what officers described as the full trafficking chain. All three have previous involvement in NDPS-related offences, NCB stated.
The agency said the crackdown was a coordinated effort with Baramulla Police, which significantly strengthened the success of the operation. Investigations are underway to trace financial transactions, identify broader linkages and examine possible inter-state connections.
NCB said the establishment of its office in Srinagar forms part of a wider strategy to bolster narcotics enforcement in Jammu & Kashmir. The agency urged the public to report drug trafficking information via the toll-free national helpline 1933, assuring confidentiality of callers.
