Kargil, Jun 27: In a moment of immense pride for Ladakh, Jigmet Namgyal of Wakha-Mulbekh village in Kargil district successfully summited Mount Everest.

He was part of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) mountaineering team that successfully scaled Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak, on 18th May 2025.

The team, after returning safely to Everest Base Camp, reached back to their home. This marks the third successful Everest summit by an NCC expedition, following previous feats in 2013 and 2016.

The 2025 team included ten young cadets, equally divided between boys and girls, with an average age of 19 years.

Upon his return, Jigmet Namgyal was warmly received by his community with traditional Khataks in a small but impressive felicitation programme at his native village. President of the Ladakh Buddhist Association Youth Wing, Kargil, Dorjey Namgyal, congratulated Namgyal and his family, stating that his achievement has brought immense pride to the entire region of Ladakh.
