Srinagar, Feb 19: The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) on Thursday took up the matter of the alleged assault on Kashmiri nursing students at Mewar University in Chittorgarh district with Rajasthan Chief Secretary V Srinivas, seeking urgent intervention to ensure the safety, security, and academic protection of the affected students, as per a press release.
National Convenor of the Association, Nasir Khuehami, said that the Association apprised the Chief Secretary of the alleged assault on students following their peaceful protest seeking clarity on the recognition status of the B.Sc. Nursing course.
The Association conveyed that 33 Kashmiri students continue to remain under suspension for raising concerns about the alleged absence of mandatory approvals from the Indian Nursing Council (INC) and the Rajasthan Nursing Council (RNC).
Khuehami informed the Chief Secretary that more than 50 Kashmiri students are enrolled in the programme, which is scheduled to conclude within the next four months, and that uncertainty over statutory approvals has left students deeply anxious about the validity of their degrees, professional registration, and employment prospects. The Association further stated that during the protest, tensions reportedly escalated when a group of students from Bihar, allegedly supported by local Bajrang Dal activists, confronted and assaulted the protesting students.
