Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Health Mission Employees Association (JKNHMEA) has welcomed the Maharashtra Government’s decision to regularize contractual employees working under the National Health Mission (NHM), describing it as a progressive step that recognizes the contribution of health workers.

In a statement, JKNHMEA President Muneer Andrabi said the decision reflects a strong commitment to employee welfare and institutional stability in the health sector. He expressed hope that the Jammu and Kashmir Government would consider a similar policy to benefit thousands of NHM employees serving across the Union Territory.

Andrabi appealed to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and Health Minister Sakina Itoo to take a compassionate view of the long-pending demand for regularization. “The Maharashtra model sets an example worth emulating. We are optimistic that J&K will follow suit to acknowledge the dedication of NHM workers who have been the backbone of public healthcare delivery,” he said.

He added that both the Mission Director, NHM J&K, and the Director of Health Services, Kashmir, have already forwarded recommendations to the Administrative Department of Health and Medical Education for consideration. “We understand the proposal is under active examination, and we remain hopeful of a positive outcome soon,” Andrabi said.

Senior Vice President Altaf Ahmad Bhat highlighted the persistent efforts of NHM employees, particularly during crises, to sustain essential health services. “Despite working under contractual terms, our colleagues have performed with dedication and professionalism. Their regularization would not only reward their service but also strengthen the health system’s stability,” he said.

Bhat further added that the association continues to repose faith in the government’s assurances and looks forward to an equitable policy decision in the near future.
