SRINAGAR: The Jammu Kashmir Mechanical Engineering Graduates Association (JKMEGA) has urged the Administration to immediately address long-pending issues affecting the engineering cadre, including the regularisation of officers, implementation of the Assured Career Progression (ACP) scheme and the filling of key vacancies across ranks.
In a meeting chaired by its President, the Executive Council voiced concern over what it described as an “inordinate delay” in resolving critical matters. The Council called upon Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary and the Principal Secretary, Roads and Buildings, Anil Kumar Singh (IAS), to expedite decisions on the overdue regularisation process for engineers at all levels.
Members highlighted acute staff shortages, particularly at the Chief Engineer (Mechanical), AEE and AE levels, warning that stagnation—especially among JEs awaiting promotion to AE posts for nearly a decade—was eroding morale and affecting departmental performance.
The Council also criticised the continued pendency in referring vacant JE (Mechanical) posts to the Jammu Kashmir Services Selection Board. With more than 200 JE posts unfilled, it said the delay was hampering field operations and weakening public service delivery. Timely recruitment, the Council added, would both reinforce technical manpower and provide qualified unemployed youth with fair employment opportunities.
JKMEGA expressed hope that the Administration would prioritise these issues and initiate prompt corrective measures in the interest of the department and effective service delivery.
