Srinagar, Aug 7: In a historic moment in cricket for Jammu & Kashmir cricket, five players from the region, belonging to the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), have been selected for the North Zone team for the upcoming inter-zonal tournament, the first time such a large representation has come from the JKCA in its cricketing history.
According to JKCA officials, this is the first instance where as many as seven players from J&K have made it to the North Zone side, marking a significant milestone.
“Earlier, it used to be one name at best. This time, five with two on standby have made it, and that has never happened before. It is a big achievement for JKCA,” the official said.
The North Zone squad will be led by India opener Shubman Gill and Ankit Kumar as vice-captain. The team features a mix of international, first-class, and emerging talent
As per the officials, the selected players from J&K are Shubham Khajuria, Yudhvir Singh Charak, Sahil Lotra, Auqib Nabi, and Kanhaiya Wadhawan (WK). Umer Nazir and Abid Mushtaq are reported to be on standby.
The official attributed the success to consistent performances and the players’ hard work over the past two to three years, combined with structured efforts from JKCA’s coaching and management teams.
“The boys have been knocking at the doors with their performances. Now they will be playing against top teams. It will really boost their confidence and help us in upcoming tournaments,” he said.
The official added, “This success reflects the synergy between the players and the management. It shows that talent in J&K is being tapped at the right time.”
