Srinagar: In what has now become a generational tradition, the JKBOSE website collapsed right as students rushed online to check their Class 10 and 12 results on Wednesday, turning tens of thousands of living rooms across the Valley into makeshift refresh stations.

Instead of marksheets, anxious students were served the board’s time-tested reassurance: “Due to technical issues, the JKBOSE website is currently unavailable. Students are advised to remain patient as the link will be restored shortly.” Patience, however, is in short supply during result season, especially when ‘shortly’ has historically meant anywhere from 15 minutes to existential crisis.

Meanwhile, an old Gazette of Class 10 results began circulating across WhatsApp groups and tuition centre networks, prompting JKBOSE to clarify that it was not from the current session. The board urged students to “wait for the official announcement and rely only on authentic sources”, words that traditionally hold less influence over the Kashmiri rumor mill than a relative claiming they “know someone in the board.”

As screenshots, rumors, and browser refreshes hit maximum velocity, comparisons resurfaced between JKBOSE’s result-hour collapses and J&K Bank’s Mpay app, which, while behaving normally today, has developed a folklore reputation for taking sudden ceremonial breaks around Eid shopping, salary credit days and festive market rushes.

“It’s not that Mpay is down today,” said one netizen. “It’s just that both services share the same emotional arc, perfectly fine for months and then existentially overwhelmed the moment Kashmir collectively needs them.”

For many, the JKBOSE outage no longer feels like a glitch but a predictable rite of passage in Kashmiri student life.
