Jammu, Jul 2: The medal-winning players of the Jammu & Kashmir Wushu team, who bagged six medals including one gold at the 34th Senior National Wushu Championship held in Jaipur last month, were felicitated on Wednesday at Wushu Hall, MA Stadium, Jammu.
As per a release, the felicitation ceremony was led by Bhavneet, General Secretary of the Wushu Association of J&K, in the presence of senior officials and sports council members, lauding the athletes’ stellar performances and promising greater institutional support for the sport in the UT.
The J&K Wushu team got 06 medals, including 1 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals, in the 34th Senior National Wushu Championship at Jaipur from 14th to 19th June 2025.
Amit Kumar secured a gold medal in the Wing Chun event; Hritik Singh and Mohd Syed Ali secured silver medals in below 80 kg and 65 kg, respectively; Maan Singh secured a bronze medal in 48 kg; Miss Ansa Chisti secured a bronze medal in 56 kg; and Ranjeet Singh secured a bronze medal in the Taolu event.
J&K Sports Council organised a pre-participation coaching camp for the selected players at Jammu for the preparation of the national championship. The team was also screened by the Divisional Sports officer along with Screening Committee members and the Wushu Association of J&K officials at Jammu.
Nuzhal Gul congratulated the medallists and the Wushu Association of J&K for bringing glory to the UT J&K from time to time at the international and national levels and assured that soon wushu sports will have a proper wushu academy where the players will be trained towards excellence.
The General Secretary, Bhavneet, also congratulated the medallists and assured that the association will request the government for a full-fledged state academy for the Wushu sports, as the issue is long pending and the Wushu sports are the only sports in UT J&K that have received numerous accolades at national and international levels. She apprised that 05 players of Wushu are in the National Wushu coaching camp at Patiala for the preparation of the 17th World Wushu Championship in Brazil from 30th August to 7th September 2025. She assured that with the support of the J&K Sports Council, the Wushu Association of J&K will not leave any stone unturned to bring the name and fame for the UT of J&K.
President Vijay Saraf, Vice President Ranjeet Kalra, and Sohit Sharma, the treasurer, also congratulated the medallist and wished luck to all of them for the forthcoming national and international events.
The team was accompanied by Ajay Paul Gill and Lalit Singh as coaches.
