J&K Govt to respond to AAP MLA’s petition on Dec 27

Jammu, Dec 18: The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh Thursday listed the matter for the response of the J&K Government on December 27, 2025 vis-a-vis the plea, filed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Mehraj Malik detained under Public Safety Act.

The habeas corpus petition of MLA Doda Mehraj Malik was listed before Justice Mohd Yousaf Wani of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh at Jammu on Thursday, December 18, 2025.

When the matter was taken up for hearing, the legal team of Malik – senior advocate Rahul Pant joined by advocates S S Ahmed, M Iqbal Khan, Appu Singh Slathia, M Zulkarnain Chowdhary and Tariq Mughal concluded the arguments on his behalf. They argued that the grounds of detention were illegal.

Senior counsel Sunil Sethi with senior AAG Monika Kohli were also present during the hearing.

The court, after hearing the arguments of the petitioner’s legal team, listed the matter for the arguments of the government on December 27, 2025.

Malik, who is the AAP’s J&K president, was detained under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) on September 8 for allegedly disturbing public order and was subsequently lodged in the Kathua jail.

On September 24, Malik filed a habeas corpus petition, challenging his detention and claiming Rs 5 Cr as compensation.
