J&K Govt Tables Three Reform-oriented Bills in Legislative Assembly – Alfaaz – The Words

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday introduced three important bills in the Legislative Assembly, focusing on reforms in rural governance, labor welfare, and cooperative management across the Union Territory.

Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Javid Ahmad Dar moved “The Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Bill, 2025” (L.A. Bill No. 5 of 2025), seeking to update and strengthen provisions of the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act, 1989.

Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, who also heads the Labour and Employment Department, introduced “The Jammu and Kashmir Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Bill, 2025” (L.A. Bill No. 6 of 2025). The proposed legislation aims to consolidate and modernize laws governing employment standards and workplace regulations.

In addition, Javid Ahmad Dar, in his capacity as Minister for Cooperatives, presented “The Jammu and Kashmir Cooperative Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2025” (L.A. Bill No. 7 of 2025), intended to streamline the functioning and oversight of cooperative institutions in the region.

All three bills have been published in extraordinary issues of the Official Gazette and are part of the government’s broader legislative agenda to enhance administrative efficiency and strengthen institutional frameworks in Jammu and Kashmir.
