Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has sanctioned 105 faculty posts for seven newly established Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) across the Union Territory.
Health & Medical Education (H&ME) Minister Sakina Itoo, while making the announcement in a post on X, said the move reflects the Omar Abdullah led government’s commitment to strengthening both medical education and healthcare services in J&K.
“Sanction of 105 faculty posts for newly established 7 Government Medical Colleges marks another step towards enhancing medical education & patient care in the UT,” the Minister wrote on X, as per Alfaaz – The Words.
As per official details, each GMC will receive 15 posts across 14 disciplines, including Anatomy, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Community Medicine, General Medicine, Pediatrics, General Surgery, Orthopedics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Anesthesiology, and Radio Diagnosis.
Most of the posts are under the Open Merit (OM) category, while some, like in Anesthesiology, have been reserved for Scheduled Castes as per roster points.
Officials said the creation of these posts will not only strengthen the academic faculty in the new medical colleges but also boost healthcare facilities, particularly in remote and underserved areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
