SRINAGAR: Authorities on Wednesday urged residents living around Dal Lake to remain alert as the water level in the Jhelum River continued to swell following persistent rainfall.
Officials warned that the rising river posed a heightened risk to low-lying areas, particularly those adjoining Dal Lake, and advised dwellers to prepare for possible evacuation if conditions worsened.
The Irrigation and Flood Control Department confirmed that the Jhelum had crossed the alert mark at several points, prompting continuous monitoring of embankments and flood channels.
Meanwhile, disaster response teams have been placed on standby, and the administration appealed to the public to follow advisories and avoid venturing close to water bodies.
