Jammu, Mar 18: Jammu Railway Division has deployed teams of trained Scouts and Guides to manage the surge in passenger traffic in view of the upcoming Navratri festival at its major stations, mainly at Jammu and Katra.
The Scouts and Guides are tasked with maintaining orderly queues at platforms and entry and exit points, guiding passengers to the correct trains and platforms, and assisting elderly passengers, women and persons with disabilities.
They are also coordinating with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) to handle any medical emergencies or issues arising due to overcrowding.
Railway officials stated that in view of the upcoming Navratri festival and the expected heavy influx of devotees visiting Mata Vaishno Devi for paying obeisance, the Jammu Railway Division has put in place comprehensive security and passenger facilitation measures to ensure smooth movement at railway stations.
The deployment of Scouts and Guides is one among such significant measures, anticipating overcrowding, especially at major stations like Jammu and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra.
Efforts are also being made to prevent congestion at specific points within stations to ensure smooth passenger flow.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal stated that the disciplined deployment of Scouts and Guides would play a crucial role in managing crowds and providing timely assistance and information to passengers, particularly during peak rush.
The Railway administration has appealed to pilgrims to remain patient, travel light and follow the instructions of railway staff, Scouts and Guides and security personnel to ensure a safe and hassle-free journey. “Passenger safety and convenience remain the top priority of the Railways,” Singhal added.
