Jammu Kashmir: Woman, Five-Day-Old Baby Killed in Road Accident | Kashmir Life

SRINAGAR: A woman and her five-day-old newborn baby were killed in a road accident on a highway in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, officials said.

According to reports, the accident occurred late in the afternoon when a car (JK05C-8423), travelling from Jammu towards Rajouri, collided with a school bus (JK11G-8076).

Three persons travelling in the car were injured in the collision and were shifted to Sub-District Hospital Sunderbani. Doctors there declared the woman and her newborn baby brought dead.

The deceased have been identified as Shanaz Akhter (40), wife of Abdul Majid and a resident of Mandi in Poonch district, along with her five-day-old infant.

The car driver, identified as Shakeel Ahmed, son of Mohammad Sadiq and a resident of Mandi Poonch, is undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Police said both vehicles involved in the accident have been seized and further legal proceedings have been initiated.
