Jammu Kashmir: Truck-ECO Van Crash Kills Two

SRINAGAR: A fatal road accident at Jhajjar Kotli in Udhampur district on Monday night claimed the lives of two persons when a truck collided head-on with an ECO van bearing registration number JK05N-4860.

The tragic incident has once again brought into sharp focus the persistent issue of road accidents on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, one of the most vital yet accident-prone stretches in the Union Territory.

According to police sources, the accident occurred when a truck traveling towards Jammu rammed into the ECO van coming from the opposite direction. The impact was so severe that both occupants of the van died on the spot, leaving no chance for medical assistance to save them. The identities of the deceased are being ascertained, and their bodies have been shifted to a nearby health facility for medico-legal formalities.

Eyewitnesses said the accident created a scene of horror, as the van was badly mangled in the collision. Locals, along with police personnel, rushed to the site to launch a rescue operation. However, due to the force of the impact, the victims had already succumbed by the time help arrived.

“The crash was devastating. We heard a loud bang and rushed to the spot, but it was too late. The van was completely crushed under the impact of the truck,” a local said.

Police officials confirmed the incident and said an investigation has been initiated to determine the exact cause of the collision. [KNT]
