
SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday announced the addition of 548 new medical seats in the Union Territory.
Presenting the budget in the Legislative Assembly, he said the seats will increase medical education capacity. The allocation includes 340 MBBS seats, 128 postgraduate seats, 34 postgraduate Ayurveda seats, and 46 Diplomate of National Board (DNB) seats.
The Chief Minister also confirmed that the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Kashmir is expected to be operational by June 2026.
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Awantipora, South Kashmir, is a major upcoming “Institute of National Importance” aimed at transforming tertiary healthcare in the Kashmir valley.
