SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir has received more than Rs 1,800 crore in central grants under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme over the past three financial years, according to data placed before the Lok Sabha.
Official figures show that the Union Territory has a sanctioned Gross Budgetary Support of Rs 4,803 crore under the scheme. Of this, the Ministry of Power released Rs 349 crore in 2023–24, Rs 624 crore in 2024–25, and Rs 828 crore so far in 2025–26, marking a consistent rise in annual allocations for the power distribution network.
The Ministry clarified that no proposal from any State or Union Territory, including Jammu and Kashmir, is pending approval. It added that financial support is tied to the achievement of performance milestones set for power distribution companies.
The scheme focuses on strengthening distribution infrastructure and improving the quality and reliability of electricity supply. The Ministry said delays in the release of funds occur only when utilities fail to comply with guidelines or meet required benchmarks.
Officials said the uninterrupted flow of funds reflects Jammu and Kashmir’s progress under its action plan, which includes loss reduction, feeder upgradation and improvements in consumer services.
