SRINAGAR: Chowdry Mohammad Ramzan, Member of Parliament from Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday raised serious concerns in Parliament over Indian nationals stranded in Gulf countries, including workers, businessmen, pilgrims and students from Jammu and Kashmir studying abroad.

He urged the Government of India to take immediate steps to ensure their safety and security and to facilitate relocation to safer areas wherever necessary.

During his address, Ramzan also condemned recent developments in the Middle East, criticising alleged unilateral actions by the United States and Israel against Iran. He further conveyed that the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and its president Farooq Abdullah have expressed strong opposition to such actions, terming them a violation of sovereignty and extending solidarity with the people of Iran.

He also highlighted India’s historical support for the Palestinian cause, recalling its recognition of the Palestine Liberation Organization under the leadership of Yasir Arafat and its long-standing foreign policy based on non-alignment, moderation and dialogue.

Expressing concern over recent geopolitical developments, Ramzan said there appears to be a shift in India’s traditional stance, citing civilian casualties in Gaza and calling for a balanced and just approach.

Several members across party lines, including Sonia Gandhi, Digvijaya Singh, Derek O’Brien, Jaya Bachchan, Sanjay Singh and Priyanka Chaturvedi, associated themselves with the concerns raised, reflecting broader support in the House.
