SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday announced that the sports ground of Sainik School Manasbal will be upgraded with synthetic turf for football and athletic activities, reaffirming his government’s commitment to strengthening the school’s infrastructure and quality of education.
Speaking at the Annual Day Function of the institution, Omar Abdullah, who is also the Chairman of its Governing Body, said the government would continue to extend full support to Sainik School Manasbal, which he described as one of Jammu and Kashmir’s leading centres of discipline and academic excellence.
“We are committed to ensuring that schools like Sainik School Manasbal are equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure so that students can compete at the highest levels. We want to introduce new initiatives that will benefit the school and its students,” the Chief Minister said.
Recalling fond memories associated with the school, Omar Abdullah said it was a pleasure to revisit the institution after a long time. He praised the school’s contribution to education and nation-building, noting that it had produced “men of honour” who serve with distinction in the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the civil administration.
“There must be something truly special about this institution that so many of its alumni hold such prestigious positions,” he said, adding that Sainik School Manasbal continues to embody discipline, dedication, and holistic education.
Calling upon students to prepare themselves for greater responsibilities, the Chief Minister said, “Let Sainik School Manasbal continue to be a symbol of excellence, discipline, and integrity — a place where the future of Jammu and Kashmir is shaped with courage and conviction.”
Earlier, Omar Abdullah took the salute at the March Past presented by the school cadets and inaugurated an Art and Science Exhibition that showcased the creativity and innovation of students. He also witnessed a cultural programme performed by the cadets.
Minister for Education Sakina Itoo, who also addressed the gathering, said that education has the power to transform societies. Remembering Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah, the founder of the school, she said, “If we do not pay our tributes to him today, we do a great disservice to this nation. Institutions like Sainik School Manasbal must continue to provide quality education to children from all backgrounds, especially those from underprivileged sections.”
