Jammu, Aug 1: Jammu Division of Northern Railway has earned a revenue of about Rs 38 lakh through ticket checking in July 2025.
“During the ticket checking campaign in July 2025 by the checking staff and Chief Ticket Inspectors of the division, a total of 6149 cases of irregular travel by the passengers were caught in which a fine amount of about Rs 38 lakh was recovered,” Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (DMC), Jammu Division, Uchit Singhal informed.
Notably, the ticket checking staff of the Jammu division, under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager Vivek Kumar and leadership of Senior DCM Uchit Singhal, conducts intensive ticket checking in trains to curb ticketless and irregular travel to provide comfortable travel and better services to all genuine rail users.
“Surprise ticket checking campaigns are also conducted continuously by the railway officials to prevent unauthorized entry of passengers in trains in which passengers are advised to travel in the train with valid tickets. Besides, regular inspection is done to keep all the railway stations of the division clean and to prevent the general public from spreading dirt at the station,” Singhal said.
During this inspection, in July 2025, about Rs 13,000 were recovered as fine from 51 passengers for spreading dirt in the station premises.
“Under this ticket checking campaign, the work done by the ticket checking staff is commendable, which has increased the income of the division. In future, this campaign will continue which includes irregular travel, illegal vending, people spreading dirt and smoking etc,” Singhal said.
Meanwhile, Singhal Friday conducted an intensive inspection of important stations of Jammu Division.
He took stock of various passenger amenities and commercial offices, establishments at Dinanagar, Dhariwal, Gurdaspur and Pathankot Junction stations.
“The progress of yard remodelling and goodshed work as well as Amrit Bharat Station work at Gurdaspur was reviewed. Besides, the platform resurfacing work at Dhariwal was discussed and the need for an additional PF at Dinanagar along with FOB was emphasised by the residents of Dinanagar during his visit,” Northern Railway spokesperson said.
During the inspection, the Senior DCM directed the commercial and station staff to be in uniform and directed the staff to follow all relevant rules and procedures while working and act courteous to the passengers.
He also directed the Section Commercial Supervisors to improve record keeping and promote cashless UTS and PRS transactions with rail help.
