Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was on Friday adjourned sine die by Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather, marking the conclusion of a nine-day session that according to House Speaker witnessed significant legislative business, constructive debates, and extensive participation from both treasury and opposition benches.
During the session, the House passed five government bills and held discussions on two private members’ resolutions. The Assembly Secretariat received 732 questions, of which 682 were admitted; 29 were taken up for discussion, while 73 supplementary questions were raised by legislators.
The proceedings also included 97 Zero Hour issues, 67 calling attention notices (with 10 discussed), and 14 private member resolutions, of which one was adopted. Out of 41 private member bills, including 14 new and 27 carried forward from previous sessions, eight were debated, while others were either withdrawn following government assurances or defeated by voice vote.
In his valedictory address, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather described the session as “unprecedented” in terms of participation and productivity. He lauded members for focusing on people-centric issues and ensuring healthy debates across party lines.
“It is heartening to see that all legislators made sincere efforts to highlight the concerns of their constituencies. Efforts were made to make the system more accommodative and participatory,” the Speaker remarked.
He also expressed gratitude to the Chief Secretary, departmental officials, and representatives from the Information Department, Doordarshan, All India Radio, and print and electronic media for their cooperation in the smooth conduct of the proceedings.
Concluding his remarks, Rather thanked all members for their “constructive role and cooperation,” urging them to continue their efforts in addressing the expectations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
