IUST, BGBSU Receive Rs 357 Crore in Capital Support: Govt | Kashmir Life

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Thursday informed the Legislative Assembly that Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri and Islamic University of Science and Technology Awantipora have received capital infusion of Rs 59.91 crore and Rs 297.54 crore respectively since their inception.

The information was provided in a written reply to an unstarred question tabled by MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, in which the Higher Education Department placed year-wise details of capital funding extended to the two universities.

According to the reply, capital funding to Islamic University of Science and Technology began in 2008 to 09 with Rs 350 crore, followed by Rs 407.50 crore in 2009 to 10. From 2011 to 12 onwards, the university continued to receive capital support, including Rs 924.40 crore in 2011 to 12, Rs 775 crore in 2012 to 13, Rs 1,230 crore in 2013 to 14 and Rs 2,500 crore in 2014 to 15.

The university received its highest capital support of Rs 6,000 crore during 2015 to 16, followed by Rs 1,599.02 crore in 2016 to 17 and Rs 1,300 crore in 2018 to 19. In recent years, it received Rs 2,155.58 crore in 2023 to 24 and Rs 2,820.70 crore in 2024 to 25, while Rs 2,749.55 crore has been earmarked for 2025 to 26.

For Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, the reply stated that capital infusion began in 2011 to 12 with Rs 400 crore, followed by Rs 564.62 crore in 2012 to 13 and Rs 400 crore in 2013 to 14. The university received Rs 550 crore in 2015 to 16, Rs 450 crore in 2017 to 18 and Rs 848.43 crore in 2020 to 21.

In the last few years, BGSBU was provided Rs 703.88 crore in 2021 to 22, Rs 422.98 crore in 2022 to 23, Rs 183.11 crore in 2023 to 24, Rs 44 crore in 2024 to 25 and Rs 187 crore in 2025 to 26.
