Srinagar, Aug 8: The District Youth Services and Sports (DYSSO) Office, Srinagar, organised a district-level inter-school cycling race for boys and girls across all age groups.
As per a statement issued, following the successful boys’ race, early in the morning on Friday, over 90 enthusiastic girls participated in the event held at Boulevard Road, Srinagar. The race was flagged off by DYSSO Srinagar Ghulam Hassan Lone at Nehru Park. The event witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including the ZPEOs, the nodal officer, and senior officials from YSS Srinagar.
The cyclists were escorted and guarded by bike marshals throughout the route, which concluded at the Botanical Garden. Top-performing girls were felicitated with medals and refreshment packets.
The organisers ensured the availability of all medical facilities and maintained strict vigilance over the participants to ensure their safety during the entire event.
The event highlighted the growing enthusiasm among young girls in Srinagar towards sports and fitness, and it ended on a positive and energetic note.
The competition not only provided a platform for young cyclists to test their skills but also aimed at promoting a culture of healthy living and active lifestyles among schoolchildren. The scenic route along the Boulevard, with the Dal Lake as a backdrop, added to the excitement and energy of the race, making it a memorable experience for the participants.
Officials present lauded the spirit and determination of the young athletes, emphasising the department’s commitment to nurturing talent at the grassroots level. Officials assured that more such events would be organised in the future to encourage greater participation of girls in sports and help them prepare for higher-level competitions.
