
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested a man in Kokernag of Anantnag for allegedly impersonating as a senior police officer, foiling what authorities described as an attempt to misuse official identity and deceive the public.
According to a media statement, a naka team deployed by Police Station Kokernag intercepted a suspicious individual who tried to flee upon noticing the checkpoint. The suspect was quickly apprehended by personnel.
Identifying him as Mohd Umer Mochi, son of Mohd Jamal Mochi, a resident of Zalangam, the Police said upon searching his bag a police uniform bearing the rank of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), was recovered by the naka team.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the suspect was allegedly using the uniform to falsely project himself as a senior officer.
A case vide FIR No. 118/2025 at Police Station Kokernag has been registered under relevant sections of law, and further investigation is in progress to ascertain the motive and any possible accomplices of the apprehended individual.
