Illicit Timber Seized in North Kashmir, One Accused Held – Alfaaz – The Words

Srinagar: In a joint night patrolling operation, authorities foiled a bid to smuggle illicit timber at Yahama Muqam in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, during intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.

Officials said that a Tata Mobile vehicle, loaded with illegally felled timber from Compartment 43/Mawar, was intercepted and seized jointly by the Forest Control Room (FCR) Langate and Beat Office Sanzipora.

One accused, identified as Manzoor Shabangi of Malikpora, reportedly a history-sheeter, was apprehended on the spot, while the driver managed to escape despite being identified.

The seized vehicle has been kept at Police Station Qalamabad, while the arrested accused has been handed over to police authorities for further action.

Officials said further details of the case will be shared in due course.
