JAMMU: In a move set to give a significant boost to the Information Technology sector in Jammu and Kashmir, IIT Jammu has initiated the process of establishing an Innovation and Future Technology Enabled Services Park near its campus. The proposed Park is being designed as a central hub for research, technology development, and job creation aimed at the region’s youth.

The initiative was discussed in detail during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo at the Civil Secretariat. The meeting focused on shaping the contours of the Park, which will come up on the 200 acres already allotted to IIT Jammu. Officials said it will be developed as a state-of-the-art facility that combines infrastructure, policy support, and partnerships to build a technology and scientific research ecosystem in the region.

Chief Secretary Dulloo directed officers to study successful models of IT and innovation parks from other states and adapt them to Jammu and Kashmir’s unique socio-economic conditions. He stressed the importance of developing a model that is not only technologically advanced but also sustainable and inclusive, creating jobs aligned with emerging trends over the next 5 to 7 years.

“The proposed Park must focus on innovation, generate employment, and harness the local talent pool,” Dulloo said. He also instructed the Revenue Department to ensure early demarcation of the land and called for a comprehensive project proposal.

A detailed presentation was made during the meeting covering the Park’s infrastructure needs, investment strategies, policy incentives, and plans for engaging various stakeholders. It was noted that IIT Jammu would work closely with both the Jammu and Kashmir Government and the Centre to develop a broader ecosystem for socio-economic growth.

The Park is expected to reduce the need for skilled graduates to migrate to other states for employment by providing them opportunities within Jammu and Kashmir. The companies operating from the Park will benefit from proximity to IIT Jammu’s trained manpower, expert faculty, and advanced research infrastructure.

Senior officials from the Higher Education, Finance, Industries, Planning, and IT departments were present. The Director of IIM Jammu also participated through video conferencing, indicating the possibility of future institutional collaborations.

This project, once implemented, is likely to place Jammu on the national innovation map and act as a catalyst for the region’s IT-led transformation.
