ICAI J&K, IT Deptt hold TDS outreach programme in Jammu

Jammu, Aug 1: The J&K Branch of the Northern India Regional Council (NIRC) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), in collaboration with the Income Tax Department, organised a successful TDS Outreach Programme at ICAI Bhawan, Jammu.

The event brought together chartered accountants, officials from the Income Tax Department, Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs), and stakeholders from across the region for a day of technical learning and engagement.

The programme began with a ceremonial welcome that included the presentation of roses to dignitaries, the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, and the rendition of the ICAI Motto Song. CA Jatin Malhotra, Secretary of the J&K Branch, formally welcomed the guests and conducted the proceedings.

In his inaugural address, CA Sourav Pargal, Chairman of the J&K Branch, underlined the increasing importance of TDS compliance in the current tax landscape. He reiterated ICAI’s role as a facilitator between the Income Tax Department and taxpayers, promoting awareness and capacity building through such collaborative efforts.

The technical sessions featured in-depth presentations by Anshuman Sharma, Commissioner of Income Tax (TDS-I), Chandigarh; Bhupinder Singh, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax (TDS), Ludhiana; CA Jagdish T Punjabi, noted tax expert from Mumbai; and Rajneesh Kumar Gupta, Income Tax Officer. The speakers elaborated on recent updates, compliance nuances, and policy developments surrounding Tax Deducted at Source (TDS).

An interactive session with DDOs followed, allowing participants to raise queries and seek clarifications on real-world challenges.

CA Amit Gupta, Vice Chairman of the J&K Branch, delivered the vote of thanks, appreciating the presence and contributions of all dignitaries, speakers, and attendees.

The event was also attended by senior officials from the Income Tax Department, including R.B. Joshi, Additional CIT, Range 8(1), Mumbai; Surinder Kaur Waraich, Additional CIT (TDS-I), Chandigarh; and Sonia Nain, Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax (TDS-I), Chandigarh. Chartered accountants CA Sanchit Aggarwal (Treasurer), CA Ayush Mahajan, and CA Ayush Sawhney (Executive Members) were also present.

The day concluded with a networking session over high tea, encouraging dialogue and collaboration within the professional community.
