SRINAGAR: The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour across all District Court Complexes (DCCs) in Kashmir, where Principal District and Sessions Judges hoisted the National Flag and took salute at ceremonial march-pasts.
In Srinagar, the District Judiciary, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), organised celebrations at the District Court Complex, Moominabad. Principal District and Sessions Judge and DLSA Chairman, Tasleem Arief, hoisted the tricolour, saluted the guard of honour presented by JK Police, and paid tribute to the nation’s freedom fighters. He stressed the judiciary’s role in protecting citizens’ rights and ensuring equal access to justice, reaffirming commitment to legal aid for the marginalised.
In Budgam, PDSJ and DLSA Chairman OP Bhagat led the celebrations, joined by judicial officers, prosecution officials, lawyers, and para-legal volunteers. Similar ceremonies were held at tehsil-level courts.
In Pulwama, PDSJ and DLSA Chairman Malik Shabir Ahmad presided over a solemn ceremony attended by judicial officers, prosecutors, lawyers, police officials, and court staff. Tehsil courts also hoisted the National Flag.
In Ganderbal, PDSJ Abdul Nasir hoisted the flag at the District Court Complex in the presence of Additional District Judge Rafia Hassan, Chief Judicial Magistrate Tabasum, and other judicial officers, prosecutors, and lawyers.
In Kulgam, PDSJ and DLSA Chairman Aijaz Ahmad Khan led the celebrations at the District Court, joined by judicial officers, prosecutors, bar members, police officials, and PLVs. Ceremonies were also held at Munsiff Courts Qazigund and DH Pora.
In Kupwara, PDSJ Manjeet Singh Manhas* hoisted the flag at the District Court Complex. Similar functions were held in Handwara, Sogam, and Tangdar courts.
In Bandipora, PDSJ and DLSA Chairman Khalil Ahmad Choudhary hoisted the tricolour in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Indu Kanwal Chib, judicial officers, lawyers, students, and PLVs. He urged the legal fraternity and youth to uphold constitutional values and work towards an inclusive nation.
In Shopian, PDSJ and DLSA Chairman Mehmood Ahmad Chowdhary led the celebrations, joined by judicial officers, prosecutors, bar members, police officials, and court staff.
Across the Valley, the events honoured the sacrifices of freedom fighters and reaffirmed the judiciary’s pledge to uphold justice, equality, and human dignity.
