SRINAGAR: In a first for the Valley, the sacred Shardiya Navratri Puja was performed at the revered Shankaracharya Temple in Srinagar, marking a historic moment in the region’s spiritual life.
The event was led by Swami Govind Anand Saraswati Maharaj, President of the Sri Hanumad Janmabhoomi Treta Kshetra Trust, and attended by the Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting official support for preserving the region’s cultural and religious heritage.
The nine-day Navratri Puja, dedicated to Goddess Durga, was conducted with full Vedic rituals and chants, overlooking Dal Lake from one of Kashmir’s most ancient temples. Devotees, spiritual leaders, and government officials joined the prayers, which many described as a milestone in the temple’s history.
Swami Govind Anand Saraswati Maharaj said the ceremony symbolised not only a religious milestone but also a cultural revival. “This is not just a religious event, but a cultural renaissance for Kashmir. May the blessings of Maa Durga bring peace, harmony, and spiritual awakening to the Valley,” he said.
