SRINAGAR: The Bandipora–Gurez road in north Kashmir remained shut on Saturday due to heavy snowfall, while authorities rescued 38 stranded vehicles in an overnight operation, officials said.
According to officials, the rescue operation was carried out by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) after several vehicles got trapped near Razdan Pass after fresh snow accumulation.
All stranded passengers were safely shifted to secure locations, and efforts are ongoing to clear the affected stretch of the road, they added.
The Gurez Valley has experienced fresh snowfall in recent days, prompting the administration to issue an alert and restrict movement along the 85-kilometre route as a precaution.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted continued rainfall and snowfall in the region over the next 24 hours.
