
SRINAGAR: In view of the forecast issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across various parts of Jammu and Kashmir from August 31 to September 1, 2025, multiple district administrations across the Valley have issued weather advisories urging the public to exercise extreme caution.
In Pulwama, the Deputy Commissioner has advised residents to remain indoors unless absolutely necessary. People living near the Jhelum River, its tributaries, and local nallahs have been specifically urged not to venture into or around water bodies due to the threat of flooding. Boat operators have also been strictly directed to suspend ferry operations during this period. In neighbouring Anantnag district, a similar advisory has been issued. People residing near the Jhelum River and its tributaries, as well as those living in hilly areas of Pahalgam, Kokernag, and Larnoo, have been asked to avoid venturing near rivers, nallahs, and avalanche-prone zones. Authorities have warned of potential landslides, avalanches, and cloudbursts in upper reaches, particularly in Pahalgam, Kokernag, and Larnoo tehsils. All Tehsildars in the district have been instructed to remain vigilant and advise the public within their jurisdictions against unnecessary travel. In Kupwara, the Deputy Commissioner has issued a weather alert based on a forecast of moderate to intense rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. The advisory applies to residents in Keran, Karnah, Machil, Budnamal, Jumugund, Nowgam, Kumkadi, and other hilly and riverine areas prone to landslides, avalanches, and flash floods. People have been urged to stay away from rivers and avoid unnecessary movement until conditions improve. Tourists, transporters, and residents are advised to verify road conditions before travelling to the region.
