“Heartbroken and Deeply Disturbed”: Mirwaiz on Budgam Minor’s Murder | Kashmir Life

SRINAGAR: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Sunday expressed deep shock and grief over the killing of a minor girl in the Galwanpora area of Budgam, describing the incident as deeply distressing and calling for a transparent, thorough and time-bound investigation into the case.

In a post on X, the Mirwaiz said he was “heartbroken and deeply disturbed” by the death of the 12-year-old girl, who had reportedly gone missing while on her way to a Darsgah. He said the circumstances surrounding the incident had shaken the conscience of society.

He said the tragedy had raised serious concerns about the safety of children and underscored the growing vulnerability of children and women in society.

Questioning the state of society, he said it was deeply troubling that children could no longer feel safe even while travelling to seek education and guidance. He added that such incidents spread fear, grief and anxiety among people and called for serious introspection at every level.

Mirwaiz said those responsible for the “heinous act” must be identified, brought to justice and awarded the strictest punishment under the law.

He also expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul.

Meanwhile, police appealed to media organisations and social media users not to disclose the identity or photographs of the victim, stating that the identity of a minor cannot be revealed under law.
