
SRINAGAR: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo on Wednesday inaugurated a 50-bedded Integrated AYUSH Hospital at Chawalgam in Kulgam district of south Kashmir, marking a significant step towards strengthening healthcare delivery in the region.
Built at an estimated cost of Rs 7.40 crore, the hospital aims to integrate traditional systems of medicine with modern healthcare services, officials said.
Addressing the gathering, Itoo highlighted the Omar Abdullah-led government’s commitment to expanding quality healthcare at the grassroots level, stating that the integration of AYUSH systems would broaden treatment options while promoting indigenous healing practices.
The facility will offer comprehensive treatment under Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani and Homeopathy, with infrastructure including inpatient wards, specialised outpatient departments, Panchakarma therapy units, diagnostic facilities, and wellness centres.
Emphasising preventive healthcare, the Minister said the hospital would also function as a hub for health awareness and community outreach programmes, while assuring adequate staffing and resources for its smooth functioning.
She further stated that work on macadamisation of the approach road and landscaping of the hospital परिसर would be taken up in due course.
MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami and Deputy Commissioner Shahzad Alam, along with senior officials and locals, attended the inauguration and underscored ongoing efforts to strengthen the district’s healthcare network.
