
SRINAGAR: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo, chaired a high-level meeting today to review the draft framework for the Jammu Kashmir Private University Policy-2025. The proposed policy aims to enhance higher education opportunities by facilitating the establishment of reputed private universities in the Union Territory.
The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary of the Higher Education Department, Shantamanu, Special Secretary, and other senior officials. Deliberations focused on creating a progressive and pragmatic policy that ensures academic excellence while maintaining strict regulatory oversight.
Emphasizing the government’s commitment to quality education, Minister Itoo stated, “Our objective is to upgrade higher education, promote innovation, and provide local students access to world-class learning facilities without compromising on quality.”
She directed officials to prepare the draft policy in consultation with all stakeholders, including students, academicians, civil society, and relevant government departments such as Revenue, Industries and Commerce, and Finance.
The Minister also stressed the need for transparent guidelines and public feedback before finalizing the policy. She said the Private University Policy-2025 should serve as a blueprint to position Jammu and Kashmir as a hub for knowledge, innovation, and skill development.
