Government BHSS Sogam Hosts Plantation Drive Under ‘Vande Mataram’ Initiative

Sogam: In a coordinated effort to promote environmental sustainability, a plantation drive was on Wednesday conducted at Government Boys Higher Secondary School (BHS) Sogam under the aegis of the ‘Vande Mataram’ programme.

The programme witnessed the presence of the Principal BHS Sogam Mushtaq Ahmad; SHO (IPS:Probationary) Sogam Vikas Gupta; ZEO Sogam Mushtaq Ahmad , Block Medical Officer Dr Javid Rasool Sogam; and J&K Bank Branch Manager, Sogam, Wajid Hamid, alongside other officials.

Representatives from the Forest Department, Forest Protection Force, Education Department, and J&K Police also actively participated in the initiative.

Addressing the gathering, speakers emphasised the critical importance of afforestation in mitigating the adverse impacts of global warming and environmental degradation. They highlighted that sustained plantation efforts not only contribute to ecological balance but also have tangible benefits for public health and overall well-being of people.

The participants collectively highlighted the need for greater public engagement in environmental conservation and urged citizens to adopt responsible practices aimed at preserving natural resources.

As part of the drive, at least twenty plant saplings were planted within the institution premises. Officials said that integrating varieties of diverse kind of trees in educational institutions can serve as a sustainable model, enhancing green cover while simultaneously creating avenues for financial support to improve institutional infrastructure over time.

The Principal BHS Sogam Mushtaq Ahmad on the occasion extended appreciation to all participating departments and stakeholders for their collaborative support and commended the institution’s staff for ensuring the seamless execution of the daylong programme.
