SRINAGAR: Government Medical College Srinagar has received the Excellence Award at the Third Medical Colleges Research Connect 2026, a national conference organised by the Department of Health Research under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The event, held at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, Delhi, brought together more than 100 Medical Colleges Research Units from across India to strengthen biomedical research infrastructure.

GMC Srinagar’s Medical Research Unit secured the award with a score of 10 out of 10. The institution was represented by Prof Sabhiya Majid, Nodal Officer, and Dr Younis Rather, Scientist C, who presented progress in research protocols, laboratory training, national collaborations and funded research output.

Principal and Dean Prof Iffat Hassan said the recognition reflects the institution’s commitment to advancing translational and priority driven biomedical research.

Officials said the award marks a significant milestone in the college’s efforts to develop as a centre of excellence in biomedical research and to support solutions for regional health challenges.
