
Kathua, Jan 22: The Directorate of Youth Services and Sports J&K marked a significant milestone with the successful conclusion of the UT Level Inter-District Thang-Ta Tournament exclusively for girls across all age categories.
Held at the Indoor Complex of the Kathua Sports Stadium, the event witnessed a vibrant display of skill, discipline, and cultural pride from young female athletes spanning the Union Territory of J&K.
Organized under the supervision of Anuradha Gupta, Director General, Department of Youth Services and Sports, J&K, the tournament, as per the DYSS statement issued on Thursday, aimed to promote the ancient martial art of Thang-Ta and inspire widespread youth participation in sports. The championship saw enthusiastic participation from talented athletes, showcasing their prowess and dedication on a competitive platform.
The championship results for the girls’ categories are as follows:
Under 19 years age group category In the 30 Kg weight class, Rohda from Pulwama secured the gold medal, with Aleena from Shopian claiming silver and Roome Shabir from Ganderbal earning bronze. The 50 Kg category was won by Sumaira Ashiq from Pulwama, while Umasia Gulzar from Shopian took silver and Tazkiya from Srinagar received bronze. In the 50+ Kg class, Qurat-ul-Monzer from Ganderbal won gold, Toiba Rashid from Pulwama secured silver, and Iztiga Rasool from Kashmir and Dahiya Hafeez from Shopian shared the bronze. The 62 Kg category saw Khushboo Ishfaq from Anantnag win gold, Suhana Jan from Shopian take silver, and Fatima Hilal from Srinagar earn bronze.
In the sub-junior category, Azra from Pulwama won gold in the 44 Kg class, with Batool Fatima from Ganderbal taking silver and Tayyiba from Kangan receiving Bronze. The 49 Kg category was topped by Mashifa Nakhsh from Pulwama, Fathima from SPE won Silver, and Kabirya from Shopian and Samika from Kathua shared Bronze. In the 52 Kg division, Shajsta Jan from Kulgam claimed Gold, Ferozat Jahan from Kupwara secured Silver, while Danak Sethi from Jammu and Falak Altaf from Shopian were awarded Bronze. Shaheema from Shopian won gold in the 56 Kg class, with Roniya from Pulwama taking silver and Tamkhi from Budgam earning bronze.
