Ganderbal Police Take Action Against ‘Habitual Hoax Caller for Misusing ERSS-112’ – Alfaaz – The Words

Ganderbal: Ganderbal Police have taken preventive action against an individual for repeatedly misusing the ERSS-112 emergency helpline by making false distress calls, officials said on Tuesday.

They said that on February 2, at around 8:00 pm, Police Post Shadipora received an emergency call through ERSS-112 via PCR Ganderbal, in which the caller alleged that his wife had been assaulted and sought immediate police assistance. “Acting on the information, a police team promptly contacted the caller and rushed to the spot indicated.”

“However, upon reaching the location, police found that the caller had switched off his mobile phone. Subsequent verification revealed that the complaint was false and baseless.”

Further inquiry, they said, established that the caller, identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Saeed, son of Ghulam Ahmad Saeed, a resident of Narayanbagh in Ganderbal, is a habitual offender who has repeatedly lodged fake emergency calls. “Police records showed that he had made at least three false complaints through the ERSS-112 system during January 2026 alone.”

“Taking note of the repeated misuse of emergency services, and on the basis of statements recorded from his wife and other family members, the individual was detained by Police Post Shadipora under preventive provisions of law to safeguard the credibility and effectiveness of the ERSS-112 emergency response mechanism,” officials added.

The officials said that the ERSS-112 helpline is meant exclusively for genuine emergencies. “Misuse of the service not only attracts legal consequences but also hampers timely police response to real cases. The public has been urged to use emergency services responsibly in the larger interest of public safety,” they added.
