Shopian: As part of the preparations for the 77th Republic Day celebrations, the full dress rehearsal of the Republic Day Parade-2026 was held on Saturday at DPL Shopian under tight security arrangements, despite sub-zero temperatures and harsh weather conditions.
The rehearsal featured an impressive march-past by various contingents. The parade was commanded by Probationary IPS officer Chaitanya Giri.
The march-past contingents included personnel from the J&K Police, Lady Police, District Home Guards, District Forest Protection Force, and the band team of School NIPS Zainapora.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Shopian, Dr Zakir Hussain, JKAS, who was the chief guest on the occasion, unfurled the Tricolour and took the salute during the march-past. He also inspected the parade contingents in a ceremonial jeep along with Additional Superintendent of Police Shopian, Rameez Rashid Bhat, JKPS.
Owing to extremely low temperatures, the scheduled cultural programme was not held. The rehearsal concluded successfully, reflecting the preparedness of the district administration and participating forces ahead of the Republic Day celebrations on January 26.
