Srinagar: A Srinagar family is mourning a loss that unfolded far from home, as the wife of dentist Dr Rouf Jeelani died during treatment in Mecca on Sunday morning.
She had travelled to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah. During the stay, she developed health complications and was admitted to a hospital in critical condition. Doctors later diagnosed pneumonia. Her condition deteriorated rapidly, and she suffered a brain stroke during treatment. She remained on ventilator support for several days.
As hope narrowed, Dr Jeelani made repeated appeals for urgent help. In videos shared on social media, he sought administrative intervention to airlift his wife to Srinagar for advanced medical care. His appeal reflected urgency, fear, and a desperate wish to bring her back home.
The Jammu and Kashmir government responded swiftly. Senior officials explored emergency evacuation options. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah personally monitored the efforts and remained in touch with the process. Medical advice, however, ruled out travel due to the severity of her condition, and she eventually left for heavenly abode this morning.
The news has left family members and acquaintances in shock. Messages of condolence poured in as people recalled the public appeal that had raised hopes only days earlier.
