SRINAGAR: Kashmir received fresh snowfall in several high-altitude areas on Saturday as a strong western disturbance brought rains to the plains, causing a drop in temperatures.
Snowfall led to the closure of key inter-district routes, including the Mughal Road, Sinthan Top, Bandipora-Gurez road, and Srinagar-Leh National Highway at Zojila Pass. Higher reaches such as Sadhna Top, Margan Top, Razdan Top, Gurez, Tulail, Affarwat mountain in Gulmarg, and the Sonamarg-Zojila axis received significant snow overnight. The plains, including Srinagar, experienced rainfall.
The Meteorological Department warned of brief intense showers in isolated areas, which may trigger flash floods, landslides, and waterlogging in low-lying regions. Intermittent rain or snow with thunder, hail, and gusty winds is expected to continue until late Saturday evening, with gradual improvement thereafter.
Light rain is possible in isolated areas on Sunday and Monday, while fresh spells of light to moderate rain or snow accompanied by thunder and strong winds are likely on April 7-8. The Met Office cautioned that isolated parts of Jammu and Kashmir could experience heavy rainfall, raising the risk of flash floods and waterlogging.
