
SRINAGAR: A fire broke out in the Lalbazar area of Srinagar on Wednesday, damaging multiple residential structures before being brought under control by the Fire and Emergency Services Department.
Officials said a distress call was received at the State Fire Control Room in Batamaloo, following which fire tenders from Nowshahra, Hazratbal and MR Gunj fire stations were rushed to the spot.
Upon arrival, firefighters found that the attic portion of a three-storied residential house was engulfed in flames. Firefighting operations were launched simultaneously to prevent the blaze from spreading to adjoining structures.
Authorities said the affected building, along with three other 3 residential houses annexed to it and having attic portions, sustained damage in the incident. However, due to the timely intervention of fire personnel, the blaze was contained before it could cause more extensive destruction.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Director General, Fire and Emergency Services, Alok Kumar, with on-ground guidance from Deputy Director FES Command Srinagar, Mir Aqib Hussain, and Mobilizing Officer Aijaz Ahmad Shah.
Officials confirmed that no loss of life or injuries were reported in the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation. [KNT]
