Four Nabbed With Narcotics in Shopian, Kupwara, Handwara

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police arrested four drug peddlers in Shopian, Kupwara, and Handwara, and recovered contraband substances including poppy straw, charas, and liquor.

“In Shopian, a police party from Police Station Keller intercepted a suspicious individual at a checkpoint on the Kathuhallan axis. The person, identified as Nazeer Ahmad Lone, son of Rasheed Ahmad Lone, a resident of Kathuhallan, attempted to flee but was apprehended. Upon search, 15.343 kg of semi-dry poppy straw was recovered from his possession. A case under FIR No. 27/2025 has been registered at Police Station Keller and further investigation is underway,” a police spokesperson said in a statement.

“In Kupwara, a police team from Police Station Kralpora, led by SHO DySP Goldy Sharma, intercepted a load carrier (JK09D-4357) at a checkpoint in Khazanmatti. Two persons onboard—Firdous Ahmed Najar, son of Gh Mohidin, and Gh Nabi Ganie, son of Moh Sultan, both residents of Kralpora—were found in possession of charas-like narcotics. Both were arrested, and a case under FIR No. 47/2025 has been registered at Police Station Kralpora,” police said.

In Handwara, a police team from Police Station Kralgund intercepted a person carrying a bag at Ananwan-Kralgund crossing. “The individual, identified as Basharat Rasool Rather, son of Gh Rasool Rather, a resident of Ananwan, Kralgund, was found with approximately 270 grams of charas-like substance wrapped in maize cover and 10 bottles of alcohol (whiskey). A case under FIR No. 32/2025 has been registered at Police Station Kralgund,” police said.

Police have urged the public to report any instances of drug peddling or suspicious activity by contacting the nearest police station or dialling 112. The public has been asked to cooperate in the fight against drugs, and police have reiterated their commitment to act firmly against offenders as per law.
