SRINAGAR: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch Kashmir has registered an FIR against four individuals in connection with an alleged land fraud amounting to Rs 53 lakh.

The FIR was lodged following a written complaint alleging that the accused, operating in collusion, deceived a complainant under the pretext of arranging a land deal in the Barthana area of Srinagar. The accused reportedly took Rs 53 lakh from the complainant but failed to deliver on the promised transaction.

The individuals named in the case include two land brokers, Tariq Ahmad Hajam, son of Mohammad Ramzan Hajam, resident of Barthana Qamarwari, and Ghulam Hassan Mir, son of Ghulam Rasool Mir, resident of Barthana Srinagar. They are alleged to have acted in criminal conspiracy with Sonaullah Mir and Razzak Mir, both sons of Khaliq Mir, also residents of Barthana Srinagar.

Following the complaint, an enquiry was initiated at Police Station Economic Offences Wing. Initial findings indicate that the accused, in connivance with certain Revenue Department officials, fraudulently manipulated land records and official documents to illegally acquire both money and property from the complainant.

According to officials, the actions of the accused prima facie amount to offences punishable under Sections 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code. Cognisance of the matter was taken and a formal FIR has been registered.

Further investigation is ongoing related to the matter.
