
SRINAGAR: Ghulam Jeelani Pandit, former Director General of Police (DGP) Jammu and Kashmir, died on Saturday, officials confirmed.
Pandit, who retired as the fourth DGP of the erstwhile state, was widely respected for his professionalism and long service in law enforcement. The cause of his death was not immediately disclosed.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police expressed deep grief over his demise, with the DGP and all ranks paying rich tributes and recalling his dedication and contributions to the force. “His integrity, commitment and leadership will always be remembered,” the police said in a statement.
Condolences poured in from political leaders, colleagues and civil society, who remembered Pandit as a distinguished officer who upheld discipline during some of the region’s most challenging times.
The police extended heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family, noting that his legacy of service would endure.
