Forest Fire Breaks Out in South Kashmir District | Kashmir Life

SRINAGAR: A massive forest fire broke out in Forest Compartment No. 89 of Chontihall Chattergul area of Uttersoo in South Kashmir Anantnag district on Thursday, officials said.

Officials said that flames were first spotted by locals, following which information was passed to the Forest Department and Fire and Emergency Services.

Forest teams, assisted by locals, immediately rushed to the spot and launched fire-fighting operations to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby compartments and residential areas.

Efforts to douse the fire were still underway when reports last came in. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
